What is UA?

Denver metro area public schools and local science institutions are joining forces on Urban Advantage Metro Denver (UA Metro Denver), a new program designed to improve science literacy among urban middle-school science students. UA Metro Denver is modeled after the successful New York City Urban Advantage, which was developed by the American Museum of Natural History and the NYC Department of Education.

Denver is proud to be one of the first urban areas beyond New York City to implement Urban Advantage. The partner organizations for UA Metro Denver are the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, the Denver Zoo, Denver Botanic Gardens, and the Denver, Aurora, and Adams 14 Public School Districts.

The program provides teachers and students with resources to help students think and explore like scientists. Urban 7th grade students are encouraged to become critical thinkers by actively engaging in authentic and meaningful science investigations that develop science literacy skills.

PREP Academy Benefits.

As an UA School, PREP Academy receives several awesome benefits. Students get the opportunity to take three field trips with this program. We will visit Denver's Museum of Nature and Science, the Denver Zoo, and the Denver Botanical Gardens.

Similarly, students receive help doing their annual science fair projects. Students will get to contact real scientists, and conduct their science investigations at any of the three locations aforementioned, for FREE!

UA also helps fund additional science expenses. This allows PREP Academy to access extra educational resources, which may not been accessible.
